Directions to relaxation in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina

From I-240 and Downtown Asheville (we are 8-10 minutes from town).

Take I-240 east to exit #9, which is Hwy. #74A east towards Fairview/Lake Lure/Bat Cave, go underneath I-40. You will see the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, just beyond that at the first traffic light, turn right on Avondale Road .

At Exactly ½ mile, bear right at the fork and continue on Avondale Road, you will pass by a no outlet sign. At exactly ½ mile you will see a group of mail boxes and a green road sign that reads Avondale Heights Road, go right.

Stay on Avondale Heights Road. Follow the paved road until you crest over the top of the mountain. As you descend, you will be facing Shoji Retreats. Continue to designated spots in the circular drive. Due to limited parking be sure to call in advance to make an appointment for a tour or book a reservation.

From I-40
Exit 53A towards Fairview/ Bat Cave (we are 4 minutes away), down ramp, go right, under Blue Ridge Parkway to traffic light (1/8 mile). You will see the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, just beyond that at the first traffic light, turn right on Avondale Road .

Parking
Shoji Retreats property adjoins the national forest and Blue Ridge Parkway property. Additionally, you pass through a quiet neighborhood to arrive at Shoji. For these reasons and the fact that Shoji parking is very limited, we ask that you bring one car per tub rental. Please advise us if you must bring two cars.

Medical/Health Issues

As therapeutic as a good hot soak can be, some people have medical conditions (such as high blood pressure or heart conditions) which require a doctor's consent. If you have current or chronic health issues consult your physician before soaking at Shoji. Be cautious about shaving your legs a few hours prior to getting in the hot tubs. In rare cases irritation may occur.

Shoji Retreat complies with all guidelines of the American with Disabilities Act. As handicapped parking is limited, please let us know of any special needs when making reservations.

Our Water
The tubs at Shoji utilize state of the art purification systems including ozonators, copper/silver ions and continuous filtration systems. The water from every tub is completely sanitized every twenty minutes.  We maintain a temperature not to exceed 104 degrees in our tubs per the NC regulations.  Please notify front desk if the temperature needs to be adjusted. .

Nudity
Bathing suits or our robes (yukata) are required in all public areas; optional in your private tub area and the cold plunge when the door is closed. A Yukata (robe), towel or bathing suit is required in the sauna.

Sustenance
Available in the lobby, you will find bottled water and light snacks which can be added to your tab during your stay. Please do not eat in the tub areas. Plastic and metal drink containers are OK in tub areas.

Alcohol
Alcohol consumption before and during your visit to Shoji may impair judgment, cause loss of consciousness or injury to self and others, and is discouraged. Never the less, if you do bring glass, we ask that you notify us so that we can provide a safe container as no glass may be in or around the tub areas. Per NC state law, you must take your alcohol containers with you upon departure.

Pets
Please make accommodations for your pets before coming to Shoji. Pets cannot be left in the car while guests enjoy their hot tub experience.

Smoking
Shoji Retreat is a non-smoking spa. Please do not smoke in or around the property or buildings.

Valuables

Shoji assumes no liability for lost or stolen jewelry, cash or other valuables on the property or in the car.
